What do we offer?

  For younger children we introduce them to Mandarin as a communication skill. 

For older children we aim to prepare them for GCSEs and A-Level Mandarin.

For adult groups or individuals, upon request we provide bespoke teaching courses.

We also offer Chinese calligraphy and traditional art lessons for those who are interested in finding out parts of the Chinese cultures through different mediums.

Who are we?

We are a Mandarin school run by UK- and China-qualified professional teachers  who are native Mandarin speakers and based in the UK. 

We are passionate about promoting and teaching Mandarin as a second language to both children and adults.

How do we teach?

Recognising the challenge of learning Mandarin as a second language we focus on fun, introducing games, multi-media, role play etc., into our teaching and learning activities. 

We focus on the learner and adapt our teaching activities to suit the learners' needs. 

A small class size ensures high-quality teaching and each attendee participates in listening, speaking, reading and writing activities during each session.

Language brings people together and bridges generations. We want our learners to fully immerse in learning the language and experiencing the culture through a variety of fun and engaging activities and thus develop the love of the language and culture.

Darley Mandarin School  (Derby) Introduction达理中文学校（德比）简介
Darley Mandarin School was set up by our Headteacher Jihong (Jessie) Moore and Dr Lin Gao in April 2017. The school offers opportunities for Chinese heritage learners and non-Chinese heritage learners  to learn Mandarin as well as experiencing Chinese culture. You can learn Chinese Mandarin speaking, listening, reading and writing; you can also experience Chinese culture, history, traditional arts and other Chinese related elements.   Our school is located in Derbyshire, neighbouring Nottingham. We started at a beautiful park named Darley Park which is where our school name came from. However, due to our expansion, we have moved to two other larger venue: Ashbourne Rd Church and Mickeover Methodist Church Centre. Our morning classes are run at Ashbourne Rd Church on Saturday mornings: 10:20-12:00, our afternoon classes are run at Mickleover Methodist Church Centre, Mickleover, Station Rd, Derby: 13:30 - 15:40. 
达理中文学校由韩校长和高林博士创办于2017年4月。学校为五岁到十八岁的华裔青少年以及喜爱中文和中华文化的外国友人提供了一个学习中文及接触中华文化的机会。在这里不仅学习中文的听说读写，同时也有机会接受中国的传统文化，历史，艺术及民族等知识的熏陶。学校位于德比郡，毗邻诺丁汉。起初我们在德比郡的郊区公园内上课，因此命名为Darley中文学校。在校老师都主力于寓教于乐的理念，都全心全意地用自己对中文的热爱感染学生。我们相信兴趣是最好的老师！由于学生人数增多我们搬到了更大的两个场地，上午 10:20-12;00, Ashbourne Rd Church, Ashbourne Rd, Derby; 下午 1:30-3:40,  Mickleover Methodist Church Centre, Mickleover, Station Rd, Derby.

Online Chinese New Year Party -  12 the February 2022, 10:30-12:00

Every year we clebrate Chinese New Year by gathering all our students from all our venues together. We preparing Chinese traditional art and craft, calligraphy and other traditional activities. Each student can choose something to perform in the party if they wish or they could just sit back and enjoy the atmasphere. Come and join the fun!

Internal Mandarin Speaking Event

To help our students to practise their fluency in speaking, we organise a speaking and reading aloud competition in Spring term. This is also a process of preparing for the UK nation wide speaking and reading aloud competition.

The Team

Jihong (Jessie) Moore 

Headteacher 
China and UK qualified teacher(PGCE, QTS, M.Ed), with rich teaching experience in China and in the UK. Experience in Primary curriculum development, GCSEs and A-levels as well as adult teaching and learning. Experience in adult tutoring, YCT and HSK levels. Currently developing GCSE and A-level materials and textbooks with other experts in the field. Currently also working as a teacher researcher in the UK MFL sector.

Chunyan Baker 

Assistant Headteacher
China and UK qualified tutor, with experience in China and in the UK, primary and secondary teaching experience,  Level 5 FE teaching qualification.

Juan Zhang 

Mandarin Teacher 
China and UK qualified teacher (PGCE, MBA), with experience and China and in the UK, rich experience in secondary education and GCSEs.

Yi-Huang Sower

Mandarin Teacher 
China qualified teacher, MA in English Education, primary and secondary teaching experience. Expereince in adult tutoring.

Wen MaCken

Mandarin Teacher 
LLM in Law. Experience in primary and secondary teaching.

Michelle Yip 

Mandarin Teacher 
MSc in Science. Experience in primary and secondary teaching.
